Sounds like low 12 vdc. I would disconnect soccerball motor and start a game. Its possible motor is bad dragging down 12 v which affects optos. Seen it before.jr

Not 100% sure every time the drones turn on in game, but the coil test feature definitely makes the props spin and lights blink. Yup, you can pull the props off.
