First thing to check would be to make sure there is a diode across the relay coil, and to make sure the polarity is correct. The diode protects upstream components from damage if the circuit is stuck on.

I also have a shaker motor on mine and from day one those bulbs never stayed in the spotlights at slings. Tried all sorts of remedies and decided to just keep them out because I got sick of taking the glass off.
