If it's a problem, you might need to consider using lower power flipper coils on the bottom and upper playfields - something like: AQ-26-600/34-4500 The thrust winding is not a huge difference, but should be a little less strain than standard flipper coils.

Check the playfield fuse. It should be a 1A SB fuse and it should have blown before F4.

When it comes to scoop protection, mantis style is the way to go IMO. All mounted underneath, nothing sticks to playfield, and provides great protection.
